Day 1 — Arrival in San José

San José, Costa Rica
Afternoon

Arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in San José or the nearby Central Valley. After freshening up, take a stroll through the city's leafy Parque Nacional or visit the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum for a fascinating introduction to Costa Rica's indigenous heritage.

Evening

Welcome dinner at a farm-to-table restaurant in Escazú or San José. Sample traditional Costa Rican dishes — casado (rice, beans, plantain, and protein), ceviche with fresh Pacific seafood, and a refreshing Imperial beer or guaro sour cocktail.

"Pura vida" — literally "pure life" — is Costa Rica's national motto and a way of life. You'll hear it everywhere.
Stay at a luxury 4–5 star boutique hotel in the Central Valley or Escazú area.

Day 2 — San José to Arenal Volcano

San José → Arenal, Alajuela
Morning

Depart San José and drive through the lush Central Highlands towards Arenal — passing coffee plantations, roadside fruit stalls, and misty volcanic ridges. Stop at a family-run coffee finca for a guided tour of the plantation and a tasting of some of the world's finest single-origin coffee.

Afternoon

Arrive in the Arenal region, dominated by the perfect cone of Arenal Volcano. Check into your eco-lodge and take a guided walk on the Arenal 1968 lava trails — solidified lava flows surrounded by regenerating rainforest, with panoramic views of the volcano and Lake Arenal.

Arenal Volcano erupted continuously from 1968 to 2010 — walking across its lava fields is a humbling geological experience.
Evening

Soak in natural volcanic hot springs — terraced mineral pools of varying temperatures, surrounded by tropical gardens. Enjoy a leisurely dinner at your eco-lodge as the sounds of the rainforest come alive after dark.

Stay at a luxury 4–5 star eco-lodge near Arenal Volcano with hot-spring access.

Day 3 — Arenal Adventures

Arenal, Alajuela
Morning

Cross the Arenal Hanging Bridges — a series of suspension and fixed bridges through the rainforest canopy, offering eye-level views of the treetops. Your naturalist guide spots wildlife along the way — howler monkeys, toucans, coatis, poison-dart frogs, and dozens of bird species.

Afternoon

Choose your adventure: white-water rafting on the Pacuare River (one of the world's top 10 rafting rivers), kayaking on Lake Arenal, or a waterfall rappelling (canyoning) excursion through the rainforest. Alternatively, take a more relaxed chocolate-making tour at a local cacao farm.

The Pacuare River is consistently rated among the top five white-water rafting experiences on the planet.
Evening

Optional: join a guided night walk through the rainforest. With torches in hand, spot nocturnal creatures — red-eyed tree frogs, sleeping toucans, kinkajous, and bioluminescent insects. Return for a fireside dinner at the lodge.

Overnight at your Arenal eco-lodge.

Day 4 — Arenal to Monteverde Cloud Forest

Arenal → Monteverde, Puntarenas
Morning

Transfer to Monteverde via the scenic lake-and-jeep route — a boat crossing of Lake Arenal followed by a mountain road climbing into the cloud forest. The temperature drops, the air thickens with mist, and the forest transforms into a moss-draped wonderland.

Afternoon

Arrive in Monteverde and embark on an exhilarating canopy zip-line tour — soaring between platforms high above the forest floor, with a Superman-style cable and a Tarzan swing for the brave. The views down through the canopy to the distant Pacific are extraordinary.

Monteverde pioneered canopy zip-lining in Costa Rica — this is where the adventure was born.
Evening

Dinner at a hilltop restaurant with sunset views over the Gulf of Nicoya. Sample local dishes and tropical fruit juices as the cloud forest transitions from golden twilight to a chorus of nocturnal sounds.

Stay at a 4–5 star boutique lodge in the Monteverde cloud forest region.

Day 5 — Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

Monteverde, Puntarenas
Morning

Guided dawn walk through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve — one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Your naturalist guide points out orchids (over 500 species grow here), hummingbirds, quetzals, howler monkeys, and the astonishing diversity of ferns, mosses, and bromeliads that blanket every surface.

The resplendent quetzal — one of the world's most beautiful birds — nests in Monteverde's cloud forest. Spotting one at dawn is an unforgettable experience.
Afternoon

Visit the Monteverde Butterfly Garden and Herpetarium — see brilliant blue morpho butterflies, tiny poison-dart frogs, and non-venomous snakes up close. Afterwards, explore the charming village of Santa Elena — artisan shops, coffee roasters, and a local cheese factory (Monteverde was founded by American Quakers in the 1950s).

Evening

Free evening to relax at your lodge, enjoy the hot tub with forest views, or take an optional night tour to spot nocturnal wildlife — owls, olingo, and sleeping hummingbirds.

Overnight at your Monteverde lodge.

Day 6 — Monteverde to Manuel Antonio

Monteverde → Manuel Antonio, Puntarenas
Morning

Depart Monteverde and drive south along the Pacific coast to Manuel Antonio — Costa Rica's most popular national park, where rainforest tumbles directly onto white-sand beaches. The drive passes through picturesque farming communities and oil-palm plantations.

Afternoon

Guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. Walk shaded trails through primary rainforest, spotting white-faced capuchin monkeys, two-toed sloths, iguanas, and brilliantly coloured birds. Emerge onto pristine crescent beaches with warm, crystal-clear water — perfect for a swim.

Manuel Antonio packs incredible biodiversity into a compact area — it's one of the most wildlife-rich parks in the Americas.
Evening

Farewell dinner at a cliffside restaurant overlooking the Pacific, watching the sun melt into the ocean. Toast to an extraordinary week of pura vida with a tropical cocktail and fresh ceviche.

Stay at a luxury 5-star resort in the Manuel Antonio area with ocean views.

Day 7 — Departure from San José

Manuel Antonio → San José
Morning

A final tropical morning — enjoy breakfast with ocean views, take a last swim in the pool or the warm Pacific, or simply listen to the howler monkeys calling from the treetops. Every moment in Costa Rica feels like a gift.

Afternoon

Private transfer to San José's Juan Santamaría International Airport (approximately 3 hours) for your homeward flight. Depart with memories of volcanic peaks, cloud-forest canopies, Pacific sunsets, and the warmest welcome in Central America.
